Highlights of the play meeting
- Bob was fascinated by the new Coke machine so when Marian went to get a Coke, he tagged along to watch the elevator rise up to the coke bottle and transport it gently to the dispenser. (It is very cool.)
- Mike brought a diner he is working on. It's missing the front doors and only has seats inside because he's been working on completing his Opus mosaic. He had a micro scale building that several of us thought was a Fotomat but is really the Weenie Beenie in Shirlington, VA. Mike showed everyone just how lame the new McDonald's "Playmobile" LEGO toys are. You are supposed to press down the head and the arm should throw the ball. Hah! No Way! Even if you manually flick the arm it only launches it straight out. And what's with the guy having only one arm anyway. Is this the guy from The Fugitive? These toys suck.
- Constantine set up a visual display of the Washington, D.C. Beltway with his large collection of cars and trucks. He's going for the complete collection of Jeeps. Also a large number of different types of taxi's and police cars. He even made a model of his yellow Ford Focus.
- Greg is leaving us to go home to Michigan :-( He will be missed. Before leaving he had a moving sale of a bunch of LEGO that he didn't want to have to pack for the move. Many extremely good deals were made. The best deal that wasn't made was for a 6977 Arachnoid Star Base that originally sold for $88 that he was offering to sell for $30.
- Craig showed a recent purchase of a classic LEGO set with a conveyor. He also had a white building with blue ornamentation that was labeled "Plain Hunt Study #1" It might be a carillion.
- Gary King was a new guest that brought a classic yellow castle complete with build-it-yourself horses. He also had a half-track and a Sherman tank.
- Margaret came with a water tower and a church for our Toy Train Museum display.
- Nate built a one room schoolhouse with a playground.
- Fradel showed a bunch of powersuits and assorted spaceships. There was also a transport vehicle of some sort.
- Magnus set up his castle complete with siege tower and rapid firing spear throwing mechanism. Now that the outer wall is complete, he is going to start working on an inner walled keep that is probably going to be too big to fit within the existing walls so he will have to build even more walls to expand the outer castle wall.
- Linda and Brian were building a 4403 Air Blazers helicopter. They also had two of the new Knights. They resemble Galidork, uh, Galidor, but are better constructed. Some of the ideas that we came up with for using the torso was to make a cool speeder, mecha head, or foot.
- Nick was building a 4477 T-17 Skyhopper.
- Joe had a 4349 Wild Pod. The model is only so-so but the pod itself is extremely well designed. I need to get a bunch just for the pod. Joe had two buildings and several high speed planes.
- Greg brought a Hoth planet shield generator complete with gun tower and taun-taun.
Highlights of the business meeting
- We have no events scheduled in the immediate future. We have been invited to participate in Seat Pleasant Day but Nate is going to follow up and get more info before we make a decision.
- Craig expressed at least a little interest in the possibility of us displaying at Glen Echo. I think everyone should encourage him to think about organizing the event. The organizer can just delegate all the activities -- right?
- We are still on for placing a display at the Toy Train Museum. Margaret took my red building and, once she has access to the remaining LEGO stored at GMU, she will have all the LEGO for the display.
- There is interest in getting a group order for Jake McKees' LEGO train book. Nate is going to find out how many of us are needed for an order and how much each copy would be.
- Fradel D. Gonzales was voted in as a new member. Congratulations Fradel!
- I was volunteered by Nate "Mr. Subliminal" Jacobs to run our semi-annual elections next month but Bob seemed really interested in running the elections so I have deferred to Bob. Interest was expressed in knowing the number of votes each candidate received.
- The WAMALUG train SIG met after the WAMALUG meeting to approve funds for a two year renewal of the WAMALUG domain.
- Our next meeting is scheduled for Sunday, April 11th but is probably going to be held in a different room so check WAMALUG for the correct location.
