Highlights of the play meeting
- Many folks sat around and built small sets or played with the K8.
- A guest brought his Hoberman sphere which was studied with great interest. It was very interesting to see how simple he made the structure.
- Joe came with a bunch of micro scale models. A tiny house (sorry for the blurry photo), some Tron light cycles, a Catalina, a ship, and a transporter (shades of The Fly).
- Another guest showed up with several models. I especially liked the black car.
- Jim came with two very cute robots.
- While playing in the K8, several folks came up with some interesting ways of joining parts into repeating patterns.
- The interior of one of the brick sorters makes for some very colorful patterns.
- A BrikWars game was going on between Magnus, Fradel, and Nate.
- Jeff was making good progress in constructing his Gundam spaceship.
Highlights of the business meeting
- We decided to just send a wreath to the Festival of Trees instead of an exhibit since there just wasn't enough volunteers for a three day show. There is talk about doing two wreaths — one made of LEGO and one traditional with LEGO ornaments.
- The Fair City Mall display has been pushed back to next year (if they will still have us). With the Festival of Trees event, it was thought that this might be too much but now that's moot.
- Fall For Fairfax is coming up on Saturday, October 2, 2004 and we will have a large three sided tent with areas for both play and display. The tables will be provided by FFF. The Outlet may provide two additional LEGO building tables as well as brick.
- We decided to do the Greenburg show at Chantilly on November 20-21, 2004 (with setup on Friday the 19th).
- Strangely, despite the "complaint" that all we do is socialize at our monthly meetings, we have decided to hold dinners between every meeting. The next dinner is scheduled for Wednesday, September 22nd.
- Our next meeting is our semi-annual election meeting, scheduled for Sunday, October 3, 2004.
