WamaLTC Meeting

April 26, 2003

Highlights of the business meeting (such as it was)
  1. There was a brief discussion about the layout for the upcoming Manassas train show. Kevin Loch is doing the track design but didn't bring a copy with him so we discussed in generalities. We are going back to our old standby layout of downtown, rural, and business since Manassas is really about trains.
  2. Greg Kramer has volunteered to set up a monorail at Manassas. WamaLTC has been talking about putting a monorail on our layout for over a year now but we just never seem to be able to make it happen. The general consensus is that Greg's car will get a flat on the way to Manassas to prevent the monorail from being on the layout.
  3. Constantine Hannaher brought his prototype for a station to handle two different lines.
  4. We talked briefly about building a lower table. Abe Friedman is going to check into the cost for using pipe for legs since the height could then simply be adjusted by replacing the legs with different length pipes.
  5. There was some general discussion about what should and should not be on the WamaLTC/WAMALUG web site.
Highlights of the play meeting
  1. The purpose of this meeting was to help Greg Kramer build a new layout in his basement. He had dismantled his old layout and we volunteered to lay track, run wiring and build a mountain and in general create a new layout.
  2. I was slightly late to the meeting so the basic layout of track was already placed.
  3. Roy Gal and Abe Friedman build a thin mountain out of Greg's BURPs. We used all the BURPs he had available (except two tan BURPS). Roy's side of the mountain was rather uniform in color while Abe's side of the mountain mixed both light and dark grey, thus showing to completely different aproaches to building with BURPs by guys who had never build with BURPS. For some strange reason, Roy kept refering to Abe as Steve.
  4. Tom Cook brought two identical red crocadile engines — thus showing his desire to have two of every set — even MOCs.
  5. Nate Jacobs brought two black cars of a type I can't remember the name of. One of the cars was labeled as NCY which was quickly switched to correctly read NYC.
  6. Roy Gal brouht his fire station with a new ladder engine. The station is mostly complete but needs a bit more furnature. Currently it has a dinning room table and a bunch of office chairs. The ladder on the engine was not the standard LEGO ladder but one build out of fences.
  7. Abe Friedman brought 10 tanker cars to run since he figured that everyone else was going to be bringing engines.
  8. Bob Hayes brought something but I can't remember what.
  9. Margaret Keys showed up late in the afternoon with a monorail made with a Jack Stone windshield that everyone kept refering to as the Jack Stone monorail.
