Highlights of the play meeting
- Greg unveiled his monorail hotel that reminds me of Disney Land Greg also showed his suspension bridge which uses LEGO connector wires as suspension cables.
- Bob brought the new space shuttle and completed assembly during the meeting. A very nice technic set with a ton of curved white pieces. The doors open and the Hubble space telescope is inside. Both the front and rear landing gear are retractable.
- Margaret ran her yellow monorail which had it's top bits removed when it went on to the bridge because it was just a tad too tall with all the tiny bits on it.
- Tom brought a bunch of trains and used this opportunity to blow all the accumulated dust off.
- Roy brought an old style LEGO red bus.
- Constantine and I constructed a VW beetle and a truck cab based on fuzzy pictures on Brickshelf while Greg acted as the parts fetcher.
- Tom brought his RCX running as a DCC controller using the remote. I had a chance to run two trains at the same time on the same track and the RCX and remote work very nicely. The only problem is that while running DCC, the trains are a bit more sensitive to any imperfections in the track. There are slight height variations in Greg's layout which seem to cause the trains to slow down at certain parts.
- Other stuff was brought and other stuff happened but since I'm writing this up a week from the meeting and not right after as I usually do... If anybody wants to send me additional information I'll update this write up.
Highlights of the business meeting
- Tom is going to investigate various DCC options. He is going to check into the different decoders that are now available to see about prices and different capabilities. Several people have expressed interest in changing their train motors to run DCC. We are thinking about having a WamaLTC meeting to mod the motors for those who don't have soldering irons (or aren't comfortable using them). Tom is also going to research using multiple RCX bricks and boosters.
