Highlights
- A bunch of us got together to build some more train tables. Our current count is, if memory serves, 26 tables. We built 4 new tables to the same specifications as our earlier tables. We have the parts (well, most of the parts) to build 2 more.
- These new tables have a new adjustable table leg designed by Bob. It allows us to adjust the height of the tables by about a foot and a half. This will help us have more interesting layouts where we can have bridges and mountains instead of just a huge flat landscape.
- We also built several more tables for Bob and Tony that have the same table tops and legs but use a different method of attaching the legs. The club's tables use hinges which account for a major cost of a table. The new method uses a pocket made up of two pieces of wood to hold the legs to the top. The pictures above show a bolt holding the legs on but a later improvement was made to switch the anchor from outside the pocket to inside. This allows the leg to be held using only friction and not having to align the bolt through a hole.
- In addition to many or our regulars, we had a new guy show up to check us out and help build — Karl Reinsch. He was so impressed that he wants to build a few more tables so he can get a few for himself. I'm guessing there will be more table building in the future.
- Bob took a few moments to fix his VW. Apparently, the folks who work on his engine keep putting the cover back and trapping his oil dipstick.
